This step was taken to increase community participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness. Markarius Anwar, Deputy Mayor of Pekanbaru, indicated that the self-management strategy was included in their vision and mission. According to him, the contract system with third parties actually reduces community involvement in waste management. “Actually, we decided in the discussion, as well as in our vision and goal, that we would handle our own garbage, correct? As a result, we no longer employ third-party services. Why? Our community's enthusiasm to engage has been decreased since it has been farmed out. Basically, it has been paid, and the responsibility has been fulfilled,” stated Markarius Anwar on Tuesday In the self-management system, waste management will be carried out at the sub-district and sub-district levels by involving the RT/RW and community. It is intended that garbage would become a common responsibility for keeping the city clean. “Later this waste will be managed by the sub-district, sub-district, assisted by RT/RW, and the community. Of course this waste is a shared responsibility,” he added. Author: Dini Rahmadanti |
